I was taught carpentry while in grade school and middle school by my grandfather, who was a carpenter and log carver.
I became involved in designing residences while in middle school. My first home design that was constructed was for a middle school teacher when I was 14 years of age. While in high school I won first place for the Architectural Design Division and second place for the Architectural Presentation Division in The Michigan Industrial Education Awards.
I worked my way through architectural college as a construction laborer, a carpenter, and later a carpentry foreman and supervisor. I also worked as a landscape contractor and carpenter in a self employed capacity while attending college.
I was twice awarded Certificates of Recognition by the Dean of Architecture at Lawrence University while attending the school’s architectural program. I served a semester at Lawrence as a student teacher for a Construction Technology professor.
I was recruited away from college by a professor that had relocated to Denver. I spent several years working as an estimator and construction engineer on some of the world’s largest medical facilities, commercial and office structures.
I left the firm to start my own business in 1984 and have been involved in designing and building residential estates, medical offices and commercial structures since that time.
During my years in business I have had the pleasure of being a member of The National Association of Homebuilders and the Michigan Association of Homebuilders, and have served several terms on the Michigan Association of Homebuilders board of directors. I have been awarded both the “Professional Master Builder” designation and the “Professional Master Remodeler” designation by the National Association of Homebuilders.
I received an award for “Outstanding Architectural Design, Exceptional Environmental Consideration”, for the second of three homes I have been given the privilege to design and construct for Mr. William Pink long before the term Green Building was being applied to the construction industry for marketing purposes. Those practices of conservation and all of the new technologies that are now available continue to be integrated into my client’s estates.
I have had the honor of being named “One of America’s Best Builders and Remodelers” in a national publication on four separate occasions.
Most importantly I have been given the pleasure of designing and building some very fine estates for some truly wonder people. Serving the needs of my clients, and being able to perform repeat designs and construction projects for many of them has meant much more than the awards I have received.
